Default valve job

2007 trx400ex should the motor be warm or cold to check valve gap. i usually check it cold its always around 4intake 5exhaust if they are off i adjust them but it still sounds rattly. or is that just the sound of the motor. it has only about 30 hoiurs on it so there is no real problems and service is usually done by me. honda done the first service at 20 hours the sound has always been there any replies would be nice thank you.

Valve gap should be checked on a warm motor.
