Default brute force quad

Hi we have a 650 brute force quad. we looked at sticky on how to reset belt light but cannot find the blk and grey wires(with all the electronic stuff do not want to unplug wrong thing). So we put quad back together with the switch inside the cover in the ON position. Took it for a little ride and it runs HORRIBLE coughs sputters backfires when given throttle. Should the switch in the cover be in the OFF position?? The light for belt has been on but belt is like new. We decided to check belt because sometimes it did not want to shift and seemed like throttle was sticking and 4 wd light would flick from 2 to 4 even though it was in 2wd. Can anyone help please we have had quad for 2 trouble free years with 4000 kms on it until lately. Any help is greatly appreciated and THANK YOU in advance
