Default Diagnosing Error Codes: EFI Brute Force

The self-diagnosis system has two modes.

User Mode
The ECU notifies the rider of troubles in DFI system and ignition system by flashing the FI indicator when DFI system and ignition system parts are faulty, and initiates fail-safe function. In case of serious troubles, the ECU stops the injection/ignition/starter motor operation.

Dealer Mode
The ECU generate service code(s) to show the problem(s) which the DFI system, and ignition system have at the moment of diagnosis.

○When a problem occurs with the DFI system and ignition system, the FI indicator light (LCD) [A] flashes.

•Remove the connector cap at the back of the bike under the seat. This is located directly beside all the relays and the rollover sensor. It's white, and one of the wires running to it is lime green and black.
•Disconnect the FI indicator light connector just below the headlight pod. This is the small, single connector outside of the main connection going to the pod.
•Connect the hand tester to the terminals of the disconnected FI indicator light just below the headlight pod.
•Set the tester to 5 mA range.
•Ground the self-diagnosis terminal lime green/black wire to the battery negative terminal using a wire.
•Turn on the ignition switch.
○Count the flicks of the hand tester to read the service code. Keep the auxiliary lead grounded until you finish reading the service code.

How to Read Service Codes
○Service codes are shown by a series of long and short flicks of the tester. The number of times the tester jumps to about 4milliamps will indicate the first number in the code. The number of times that it jumps to 2.5milliamps will indicate the second number..

○Even if the ignition switch is turned OFF, the battery or the ECU are disconnected or the problem is
solved, all service codes remain in the ECU.

CODES
11 Throttle sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
12 Inlet air pressure sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
13 Inlet air temperature sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
14 Water temperature sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
21 Crankshaft sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
24 Speed sensor malfunction, wiring open or short
31 Vehicle-down sensor, malfunction, wiring open or short
41 Injector malfunction, wiring open or short
46 Fuel pump relay malfunction, relay is stuck
51 Ignition coil #1 malfunction, wiring open or short
52 Ignition coil #2 malfunction, wiring open or short

If one of the following components are the cause of the problem, no service code will be displayed:

FI Indicator Light (LCD)
Fuel Pump
ECU Main Relay
ECU Power Source Wiring and Ground Wiring (see ECU Inspection)
Fuel Injectors
ISC Valve

Notes:
○The ECU may be involved in these problems. If all the parts and circuits are checked out good, be
sure to check the ECU for ground and power supply. If the ground and power supply are checked
out good, replace the ECU.
○When no service code is displayed, the electrical parts of the DFI system has no fault, and the
mechanical parts of the DFI system and the engine are suspect.
