1993 polaris 350l (trailboss?) starting issue

Hey y'all I have a 1993 polaris 350l 4x4. It is a GREAT bike, but one of the few small issues I have with it is that sometimes, when activating the electric start, it seems like the starter does not engage, it runs without cranking the engine. Not that major of an issue, because if it does that, i just let off the starter, let the starter motor wind down, and try again. and usually within 2-3 times of doing this, it engages the engine and starts right up. Only once did it cause enough retries that it drained the battery, but the pullstart started it right up.
any Ideas?

Check your starter drive clutch ,( bendix).

Okay, thanks, after all the hunting seasons end here in Missouri, its my next project, gonna break it down and rebuild as much of it as I can...
