Default No 4wd in reverse

I have a 800 sportsman. I have searched high and low on information on troubleshooting my problem. I have 4wd in forward but not in reverse. (even after pushing the yellow button). Anyone else have this problem?

Im wondering if its a bad pinion bearing thats causing it to slip.

did you hold the yellow button in?
you can't let your thumb off the yellow button when reversing
