I've recently been given an '86 Moto 4 225 that doesn't run. When I got it the battery was gone, carb needed rebuilt and the motor was lightly stuck.
I un-stuck the motor. Rebuilt the carb and now I can't get it to fire or even pop.
I don't think this matters but I don't have a battery in it so I'm jumping it off of a car battery and it seems to be turning over just fine.

Now here's the strange part. There spark, compression, and fuel but I can't get it to fire, or even sneeze.

Any ideas?

i have a 91 350, got it basically the same way you did, had spark, weak and inconsistant. i put a new stator on it and it fired up. i think the earlier years of yamaha had problems with the stators from what i was told. 200$ or less is what you will pay i'm sure. it was a little bit more in canada eh....
