Default Big Bear shifter cable help

On my 1988 Big Bear the shifter for high, low, reverse is supposed to have 2 cables connected to it, The main one (contol wire 1) is there and shifts it from high, low & reverse. Control wire 2 is missing, where does it connect to???? The machine works without it, but i want to replace it if it does something.

On a 1988 Yamaha Big Bear there is a hand shift lever located on top of the left front fender that shifts the machine from high, to low, to reverse. This shifter has 2 cabbles attachet to it. The main cable (referred to as cable 1 in books) does the actual shifting and connects to the arm on the transmission.
There is a second cable (referred to as cable 2 in books) that is missing. I know where it connects on the shifter, I need to know where the other end goes.....DUDE!
