Gas leaking out of exhaust pipe

I recently bought a used Suzuki Vinson 500 to use on my hunting lease in Alabama. While I was at the lease the other day I rode about 12 miles and my atv Just stopped and a puff of white smoke came out of the exhaust. I tried to start it back up and started to smell gas took off the seat and there was gas in the air filter box then I noticed it dripping out of an overflow tube and the exhaust pipe. Any ideas what's wrong is it an easy fix or is it screwed up. I'm not a mechanic so any help would be great.

Wookalar, sounds to me like you have a stuck float valve on your carburetor. May have a piece of dirt in it or the float is just sticking which would allow the gas to overflow out of the carburetor into the air box and engine. That would also probably foul your spark plugs at least temporarily, which is why it wouldn't start. You can try tapping lightly on the float bowl of the carburetor(s) or rock the ATV from side to side to see if you can get the float to unstick. Sometimes that works, otherwise you may have to remove the carb(s) and clean the float valve. You can also install an inline filter on the fuel line between the gas tank and carburetor to help prevent any dirt or foreign matter getting in your carbs. The float bowl is the very bottom piece in this diagram:
Hope this helps and good luck!
