Thumbs up Coming back after 10 years

Hi all, I'm Ken, I used to own a 2006 Polaris Predator 500 over 10 years ago and I finally feel it's time to get back into the off-roading action! I haven't bought anything yet, though from the looks of things, it seems like mostly ALL manufacturers left the scene aside from Yamaha.

Because of this, I'm here to get some guidance. I'm 5'11" and a husky 230lbs. My Predator was quite fun but it's lack of aftermarket was limited. Not to mention when I road my brothers '06 YFZ450r it seemed a bit on the "non-exciting" side. I always compared my Predator as a Cadillac vs my brothers YFZ as a go-kart. The YFZ had the top end power while mine had the low end pep. Both were great, but now that I gained a few pounds would a 450r (Yamaha YFZ450r, KFX450r, CamAm 450) work? Or would a Raptor 700r, Outlaw 525/KTM be a better pick? Carb vs FI?..

I'm not really interested in buying new but unless the 'tech' and quality is there, I wouldn't be against it.

Riding style:

I do like my low stance / wideness since I live in the desert so we just have a lot of rolling hills and wide trails. So desert riding and sand dunes would be the life of my next unit.

Thanks for all you help!
Ken.

Hey Ken,

I'm like you. I am 6' tall and about 250ish :P I have been out of the ATV game for about 15 years. I sold my '03 Raptor 660 back in '04 to pay for a divorce and regret getting rid of it ever since. My son just turned 12 and decided he wants an ATV. I have an '04 Ranger and we use it more like a golf cart so I don't count that as much fun. I bought my son a Kawasaki Bayou 220 for his first ATV and he absolutely loves it! I rode it a couple times and I got the bug! I just picked up two Polaris Predator 500's pretty cheap. I rode the '03 and I am like a lil kid again! It is mostly stock and carries my fat ass around with no problems. The '04 is heavily modified and has a starting issue. Once figured out, I will be on it for many hours to come! If you can test drive a few that may help with your decision. I like the Polaris due to their simplicity.
