First ATV: Kodiak for $700?

I'm looking at getting my first ATV (never really needed one before, but am finding reasons to have one now). There's a '94 Kodiak 400 around here and he's asking $700. Well within my budget..... But am wondering if that's a good move, or average, or (?)
The next question is the obvious- What should I know about or want to look for on it? (besides the usual oil leaks, etc) He said the motor has been rebuilt, but wasn't much more detailed than that....could mean a lot!

In my opinion if it starts, runs, and shifts through all the gears it worth what he’s asking. If the plastic and tires are decent then absolutely. It’s rare in my area to see a running quad for less than $1000.

Take a good look at it. See how it sits parked. Is it straight? These bikes take beatings and a hard hit on a rock or tree can bend the frame. Take a look down low. How’s the frame? It is terribly pitted by rust? Are the fasteners so rusted that you’d never be able to remove them. Take a look at the cv boots. Are they intact or do they have holes? Lights work, front and back? Brakes? Ride it. How does it start? Feel the throttle. Move freely? Ask about maintenance and any problems you should be aware of. If everything seems good buy it. Good luck!
