I'm a noob when it comes to quads, now I've got an oil leak and I'm not sure how to fix it. I could just take it to a mechanic and I might, but I would like to learn how to repair my ATV myself if I can. The underside of my quad (I think it's called the skid plate) seems to be totally covered in oil, so it leaks off from a few spots. So I guess I would have to take the skid plate off first, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it.

When fixing something like an oil leak should I drain most of oil first? What steps would I have to take in order to check out where the leak is coming from without breaking something or making a big oily mess? Also would the oil leak explain why my Low Oil Pressure light is on?

Yeah, first thing is to remove anything in the way. Then do a thorough clean of the area.
Pro Tip after cleaning, spray Dezsenex Foot powder on the area. Then run it. Oil leaks
will show as a brown stain. If the leak is in one of the areas with oil feed from the pump,
it could affect your oil.pressure.
