I recently traded for an 87 Yamaha Moto 4 200 and started wrenching. Stator, rectifier, and a few wires are fried, CDI is uncertain, and the 87 parts are stinking pricey. It's in otherwise really good shape, and I've got $0 in it.

Initial plan was to replace rectifier and coils in stator, and see if it goes. If not, bite the bullet and buy CDI. Total of about $300-$350.

The 88 Yamaha Blaster 200 ignition system parts seem similar, but cost about 1/3 less.

Question is, must I use Moto 4 ignition parts, or could I replace the entire ignition system with 89 Blaster 200 parts top to bottom?

What would you guys do?

Decided to go with parts for 87 YFM200, and have bought the stator rebuild kit. Needing rectifier, any help out there?
