Have a 04 Grizzly 660 that, during a ride on Paiute Trail, started to sputter, became hard to start then would only start with pull crank, and then ran the battery down to where it died completely with no battery power left whatsoever. I suspect the generator/alternator has gone south, has anyone replaced one of these? Is it a case-cracker?

The process of testing and replacing the stator is relatively easy. It is located under the crankcase cover. You can find tons of videos online on how to test your charging system, including the battery, voltage regulator/rectifier, and stator (alternator-generator). All you need is a multimeter to perform the test.
