Hello all, I'm new here. I found this site by way of snowmobile world.

I have a Honda vf1000r engine, and I would like to use it in a four wheeler frame. The four wheeler will be purchased from an auction, so I don't have a certain one in mind. I would like to stick to a sport body, rather than an 4x4 type. Something like a banshee, warrior, 250r, ect...

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what models would be best suited for this?

If I remember correctly, the engine is somewhere around 17-18" top to bottom, and 22-23" front to back. The engine is still in the bike frame right now, which i started converting into a 3 wheeler. Put a set of atv forks on the front, and a swingarm/axle on the rear. Started doing the little odds and ends, but decided to scrap the idea and go with a four wheeler frame. Mainly for safety reasons. I've riden some fast machines, but the thought of going that fast on three wheels scares me a little.lol

I'm just looking to build a super fast quad. I'll do a little trail riding, and take it to the dunes whenever I can. A buddy of mine once put a suzuki 600cc bike engine in a 250r. That thing was fast, and we rode it in the trails, as well as dunes. The one thing I remember well is that it ate through sprockets.

Banshee was my 1st thought, and the one that I would honestly like the most, but being how I will be looking to buy from an auction, I may have to go with another model.

Any other good candidates?

Gotta love the sound of 4 cylinders screaming...

I've seen 1000cc engines in Raptors. I can see how it would be sketchy in a ATC though. A quad distributes the weight better with that engine. Imo...I would extended A-arms+swing arm for sure. Craigslist+Ebay have good deals.

I'm also a Honda guy.

wrong. banshee motors are no where near tall enough to accept that engine. You will need to cut the bottom of the frame and drop the motor down lower while still adding about 4inches to every vertical frame tube.

Yamaha raptor engines are very tall to begin with. These frames will accept a 4 cylinder street bike engine with much less cutting of the frame.

z400 and kfx400 can fit a gsxr 600 engine with only the top two horizontal frame tubes being widened to accpet the wider motor. not sure if that chassis will take a 750 or 1000 with that little labor though.

but banshee frame is not the easiest frame to work with. lots of people did it, but they endup looking like frankenbikes
