Need some advise please..... can"t seem to adjust the carb..
Runs rich .

Do I adjust the pilot jet screw IN to make it run leaner? I tried turning both ways and noted no difference except in level of smoke.

Thanks........

That's not the pilot jet. What you're turning is either an air screw or a mixture screw. If you're SURE
its running rich, ( black spark plug, black smoke, smell) , take the carb off and remove the bottom bowl. You should see
a brass colored main jet. Remove that. It has a number stamped on it somewhere. That's the size. Use a flashlight and look carefully in the holes near where the main jet was. In one of them you should see a jet down in the hole with a slotted head. ,( if you're lucky it could be exposed instead). Using a very good screwdriver, remove that jet. It will also be
stamped with a size. That's the pilot jet. If you want to make the mixture leaner, go down on the size of both jets. Smaller number is
leaner. You can try going down one size on the pilot jet and 2 on the main jet. its kind of trial and error. Then fine tune it at idle with the screw you were turning.
