Hi all. I am new to group. I am working on a project hisun 700 utv and need to adjust the valves. I think my main problem is, I don't have the exhaust valve where the decompression nub on cam shaft hits, set right. I have new head, timing chain and piston. The engine gets to compression stroke and the starter struggles to crank it past so valves are not adjusted properly.

Do I adjust at tdc on compression stroke for intake and exhaust tdc for exhaust valves? Any input would be awesome thank you

Yes, tdc compression. Ensure dots are lined up on cam sprocket and flywheel. Check battery as well.

I don't think you ever adjust valves on the exhaust stroke. The valve will be on the cam and you'll naturally have no clearance. If you set clearance it will be way too big. On my KTM, to set the valves, you have to go up to TDC on compression stroke, then go PAST and back it back up to TDC. This gets it off the decompression lever
