I am shopping for a winch and some winches have rope and some have metal cable. If the winch is rated for 3000 lbs and it has a rope, will the rope easily break? How strong is the rope on these winches?
to add more to my comment. I have never had rope but have heard they are great. I plow a lot of snow with mine and wire cable when pulled over a sharp bend downwards on the fairlead (like pulling up a plow) tends to break the small strands in the cable. Cable is meant to pull straight and with very little stretch. Rope has the same strength if rated properly to match the winch but can withstand the sharper bends. I am probably going to change mine to rope this coming summer as I have not heard anything bad about them.
